The Spring 2011 season marks the Lincoln Center debut of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which has drawn more than 200,000 visitors to its Bryant Park tents since 1994. The week features all-American and avant-garde creations by such homegrown phenoms as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg and Michael Kors.
Once known as Press Week, New York Fashion Week was founded in 1943 to distract from French fashion during WWII; it was later rebranded Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in 2009. The event is one of four major fashion weeks held twice annually in Paris, London and Milan.
