Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in 'Power Rangers' Is All Kinds of Fierce
The actress steps into the role of the cackling alien witch in the upcoming reboot.
Back in February, Elizabeth Banks was cast in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot as Rita Repulsa. Since Banks nailed the highly stylized and somewhat campy role of Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games series, casting her as the villainous alien witch thirsty for galactic domination seemed like a good fit.
Now we have our first look at the actress as the cackling Power Rangers antagonist. Let's just say, the look is quite a departure from the Rita Repulsa we all grew up with...
“It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” Banks told People. “We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.” Yup, more "edgy", we guess.
Though some fans may be disappointment the film has decided to completely modernize the character's look, one thing is certain — like the actors who have played the deliciously evil character before her, Banks will slay.
