Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa? Okay, we can be down with this.

It's official! Elizabeth Banks will step into the role of the villainous Rita Repulsa in the upcoming Power Rangers movie:

Banks cast as the evil alien witch set on achieving galactic domination is notable for two very important reasons: 1. Elizabeth Banks kind of rules, and 2. She is practically the only notable star that has been cast in the film. And despite these two factors, the film will probably only achieve mediocrity at best (but here's to hoping it proves otherwise!).

According to Variety, the big-screen adaptation will "reimagine the origins" of the teenage warriors who are entrusted with saving the world. Though this may not be enough to get '90s kids pumped about the new version, Banks' casting definitely should.

Not only does the actress have plenty of experience with campy, eccentric roles, she's got a real talent for transforming herself into completely unrecognizable characters... Effie Trinket, anyone?

Now, let's just hope Banks gets that Repulsa cackle down pat.
