Grant Gustin Just Isn't a 'Good Fit' for DC Movies, Says Zack Snyder
Ezra Miller will be playing the Flash in the DC movie universe.
Grant Gustin has won the hearts of TV fans in the CW version of The Flash, but that doesn't mean he'll be joining the all new DC Cinematic Universe. While we've known for a while that Ezra Miller will be playing the DCCU version of the comic book hero, Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder recently opened up to the New York Daily News about the casting for the first time.
When asked why Gustin wasn't considered for the DC movies, Snyder said, "I just don’t think it was a good fit." He went on to imply that the TV Flash's light-hearted tone wouldn't mesh well with the hard-boiled DC world of the coming movies: "I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where... that [tone is] not our world."
While those words might not be what Gustin's fans want to hear, it is true that his version of the Flash wouldn't fit in with the bleak landscape of the upcoming DC movies, and those same fans probably wouldn't think so either. Everyone's probably happier with Gustin staying where he is, especially since those movies would definitely eat into the show's shooting schedule.
Perhaps sensing that he might be alienating some fans, Snyder added: "Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world, and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse [idea], so it’s just not a thing that’s possible."
The Flash will make his first planned appearance in the upcoming Justice League movie, which Snyder will be directing. His Batman v Superman movie has been written to set up more DC universe movies in the coming years.
