Fernando Alonso led a McLaren 1-2 in Sepang, the first time after Brazil 2005. Alonso and team mate Lewis Hamilton dealt crashing blows to Ferrari who started the race from P1 and P3. Both the McLarens passed the Ferraris by turn 2 in the first lap itself and from then it was pretty much a race of pit shop strategies and hold back your opponents. Alonso finished 17.5 seconds ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton who did a terrific job at keeping the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen 0.8 seconds behind him.
After round 2, Alonso leads the World Championship with Kimi Raikkonen in 2nd and Lewis Hamilton in 3rd place.
