Nickelodeon Announces Brand New Channel Dedicated Entirely to '90s Cartoons
And on that day, all was right in the world.
UPDATE: A Nickelodeon spokesperson has clarified that The Splat will not be its own channel but "is a new day part (10pm - 6am) that is launching next month in the U.S."
Right in the midst of hard-hitting interviews, teases and taunts as to the future of the network's most beloved cartoons, Nick has let slip that they'll be rolling out an entirely new channel, The Splat.
Though no hard release date has been mentioned, the channel will be dedicated entirely to Nick's most popular '90s cartoons — including, but not limited to, Rugrats, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life, Rocket Power, CatDog, and The Wild Thornberries.
Nick waited for this year's 90s Fest to share the fantastic news, a perfectly apt occasion.
The decision to create a completely new channel as an outlet for Nick's cartoons of yore seems well-timed.
In early September, Nickelodeon’s President of Content and Development, Russell Hicks, said that the team was "looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way." Now, it seems, the only thing fresh about the project will be the name of the channel.
All hail, nostalgia.
