George Clooney is bringing one of America's biggest political scandals to Netflix. Fascinating timing, am I right?

Deadline reports Clooney is partnering up with Bridge of Spies writer Matt Charman to develop an eight-part limited series based on the Watergate scandal. The scandal led to former President Nixon's impeachment and resignation in the 1970s.

The series will be spearheaded by Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and his partner, Grant Heslov. Each episode will reportedly focus on one of the people deeply involved in the political debacle, including Nixon confidante John Ehrlichman and Attorney General John Mitchell.

On June 17, 1972, five men broke into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters, located in a Washington, D.C. office complex called Watergate. The men were eventually discovered, shedding light on the unsavory practices of Nixon and his salty squad. The Watergate scandal not only refers to this crime of espionage, but the Nixon administration's attempt to cover it up, as well as the subsequent investigation that doomed his presidency.

Can't be sneaky-sneaking around, Nixon. Trust and integrity are paramount to being a solid leader, Nixon.

Needless to say, the entire Watergate scandal is a lot to cover in only eight parts. Given Clooney's track record, however, we're excited to see how it turns out.

No word yet on casting plans for the series, but we'd love to see Clooney himself play a role.

Perhaps Nixon?
