But now Star Trek star George Takei is urging sci-fans to to raise up their light sabers against a common enemy: the vampires of Twilight.

In a hilarious video that begins with William Shatner and Carrie Fisher reigniting the Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate, Takei jumps into the fray to urge everyone to "shut their wormholes" and defend themselves against the true threat of mopey vampires.

"Gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie or epic battle. In its place we have vampires that sparkle, moan and go to high school," he intones in a mock serious voice. "Sci-fi fans be warned, there are no great stories, characters, or profound life lessons to be found in Twilight... In Twilight, the only message that rings through loud and clear is: 'Does my boyfriend like me?'"
