Guy Ritchie to Put the 'Action' in the Live-Action 'Aladdin' Movie
The British director is known for his fight scenes, not so much his family friendliness.
The live-action adaptation of Disney's Aladdin is one big step closer to becoming a reality now that they've signed on a director. According to Deadline, Guy Ritchie will helm the film with a script from frequent Tim Burton collaborator John August (Frankenweenie, Big Fish). As of now, no cast announcements have been made.
The choice is interesting because Ritchie isn't exactly known for being family friendly. The action director most recently made The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which showcased his talent for coordinating eye-popping fight scenes. We can't wait to see how that talent is brought to bear on the Disney film, which will be the latest in a string of live-action adaptations that have been huge hits for the Mouse House. Following the success of Cinderella and The Jungle Book, Disney's next live-action feature will be Beauty and the Beast, and it appears they're going to keep cranking these out until they've run out of classics or they stop performing at the box office — whichever comes first.
