7 Stars Who Decided Marriage Doesn't Suck

Getty ImagesWe get it, people change their minds. Heck, one second you want a sprinkle donut, the next you decide you have to have the maple bar instead. When you're talking about a big life event like marriage, though, it's rare to drastically veer from your original plan of action. But these stars have done just that — vowed to never walk down the aisle (at least ever again) then went for it anyway.

This silver fox has been in plenty of long-term relationships over the years (and was married in the '90s), but no one ever thought he'd say "I do" again. So when he proposed to girlfriend Amal Alamuddin in April after a few months of dating, the world stopped for a second. And now there's hope for the next eternal bachelor, Leonardo DiCaprio. He's got to run out of models to date sometime.

Brangelina was practically the poster couple for celebs against marriage, after less-than-stellar marriages for both parties, then he went and popped the question with an epic diamond in April 2012. They claim their move toward marriage has to do with their six young kids. They have yet to tie the knot, however.

Halle Berry

Before a handsome French actor came along, Berry was operating on the "two strikes you're out" rule. She's been married twice (to baseball player David Justice then singer Eric Benet) and originally planned to opt out of a third trip down the aisle. She said in a past interview: "I no longer feel the need to be someone's wife and I don't need the validation of a marriage certificate." However, in January 2012, she accepted Olivier Martinez's proposal. They got hitched in France in July 2013 and welcomed their first child together that October. So far, so good.

This star used to say one trip down the aisle was enough. After his divorce from Scarlett Johansson, the actor told interviewers he had no plans to get married again. But then Blake Lively came around. They dated quietly for less than a year before pulling off a secret wedding in September 2012.

Johnny Depp

Depp used every excuse in the book to explain why he and girlfriend of 14 years Vanessa Paradis never married (like he was "scared of ruining her last name"), then he went and popped the question to girlfriend of less than two years Amber Heard. They haven't said "I do" yet, but they did have a fancy engagement party in March, so it looks like the ball is rolling.

Jenny McCarthy

It wasn't so much that this blonde didn't want to get married, but when she dated Jim Carrey it wasn't something she cared about. "I'm very comfortable not having to have a certificate. I think there's something wonderful about people wanting to stay together because they want to stay together," she said during their 5-year relationship. Now, apparently, she wants a certificate with Donnie Wahlberg, who just popped the question in April. Now they're reportedly thinking about eloping.
