US Team shuns Hope Solo, wins 3rd without her

The US Women's Soccer Team decided not to allow Hope Solo back into play after her outburst to the media.  Solo publically criticized the coach and replacement goalie Scurry after the US loss to Brazil.  Solo had been pulled from the game prior to the loss.

The US Team won their final game without Hope Solo and took 3rd place in the tournament.

Hope Solo's outburst was considered unacceptable, and the older athletes on the team decided that she should not play in Sunday's game and should be isolated from her team and grounded in her hotel room.

Here is what the USAToday Newspaper reports:

Solo couldn't play or train with the team and had to take her meals apart as the team shunned her. By Sunday evening, it was unclear if she would even fly back to the U.S. with the team she had been a part of for more than two years.

"The circumstance that happened and her going public has affected the whole group," said Kristine Lilly, a 36-year-old forward who played in a record fifth World Cup. "And having her with us would still be a distraction."
