Daniel Radcliffe and the Beat Generation Get Into Murder in 'Kill Your Darlings'

(Sony Pictures Classics)

From the onset Sundance favorite Kill Your Darlings looks like your typical Beat Generation Film. There's Bebop Jazz playing, heavy drinking, wild parties in a smoke-fill room, and plenty of contemplations about life, love, and, of course, literature.

However, in the first trailer for Daniel Radcliffe's forthcoming drama, things take a turn for the dark and obsessive. The film, which is based on real-life events, follows Beat writer Allen Ginsberg (Radcliffe) as he meets William Burroughs (Ben Foster), Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston), and Lucien Carr (Dane DeHaan) in the 1940s at Columbia University.

Their literary circle and plans to start a revolution experience a super creepy twist after Carr murders his professor and mentor David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall). The act ultimately sets things in motion that will later end up having a profound impact on the Beat Generation authors and their writings.

Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kyra Sedgwick also star. Kill Your Darlings hits theaters Oct. 18.
