We Ranked 20 Jane Austen Adaptations From Best To Worst

1. Tie: 'Pride and Prejudice' (1995)
Adapted from: Pride and Prejudice

Starring: Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth

We cannot and will not be made to choose between the 1995 BBC miniseries and Joe Wright's 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. We ardently love both for very different reasons, and thus we've ranked them as a tie. (If you think this is a cop-out, you're totally right, but who could blame us?)

The beloved BBC miniseries set the bar for all Austen adaptations to come. No actors have done greater justice to Lizzy and Mr. Darcy than Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Screenwriter Andrew Davies rightfully puts Lizzy's wit front and center in this loyal adaptation, along with the Bennet sisters' precarious social standing. Plus, the 327-minute runtime means all of the novel's storylines get ample attention (perhaps too much, in Lydia's case).
