Turns out the couple may not have gotten married after all.

Following news that Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are divorcing, TMZ claims they might not have been married in the first place.

In a bizarre new report, the site shares the results of a recent investigation into the couple's marriage documents — there aren't any.

"We checked marriage records in L.A. County all the way back to 2010 and there is no record of a marriage license," TMZ writes. "There's such a thing as a confidential marriage license, but we're told they did NOT get one in L.A. County."

TMZ also says it checked with sources to see if Aniston and Theroux could have gotten a marriage license in another California county, but the chances seem to be slim. There also appears to be no movement toward either party hiring a divorce lawyer.

"It's certainly possible they're legally married," the site writes, "but based on what we found, it's possible they're not."

While there was certainly some sort of marital celebration, it seems the two might not have made the marriage legal. Aniston has discussed the couple's wedding day publicly.

"It’s funny," she told Harper's Bazaar in 2017. "I just gave Justin our edited video of the wedding for our anniversary, and it was fun to revisit it."

Aniston and Theroux reportedly started dating in 2007, and only went public with their relationship in 2011. The two became engaged in 2012, and the wedding Aniston references above seems to have taken place in 2015.

Who even knows anymore.
