Looks like Westeros and the United States aren't so different after all.

Jimmy Fallon began the 2017 Golden Globes with a lovely, bromancey La La Land spoof and quickly segued into his opening monologue. In absence of the Tonight Show host's teleprompter — no awards show goes without technical glitches — Fallon improvised much of his speech.

While the majority of his words were those of celebration and excitement, the comedian also discussed current events, including the fact that (in case you haven't heard) Joffrey Baratheon Donald Trump will become president of the United States January 20.

"What would it be like if King Joffrey had lived?" Fallon asked, referencing the Season 4 death of the notoriously deplorable Game of Thrones royal. "Well, in 12 days we're going to find out."

Later in the speech, Fallon managed yet another reference to the presidential election, stating that "Ernst and Young and Putin" had counted the votes for the 2017 Golden Globes.
