The Internet Has A Lot To Say About Joaquin Phoenix's Joker
A new camera test snippet of Phoenix as DC's most popular villain has sent the web into a frenzy.
In case you missed it, director Todd Phillip recently unveiled an exclusive camera test snippet of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.
The sneak peek featured Phoenix in character as Arthur Fleck, the man who would eventually become the Clown Prince of Crime. The clip features various shots of the Joker dancing playfully as The Guess Who’s "Laughing" plays in the background. Arthur slowly cracks a smile before he morphs into a Pagliacci-esque Joker, complete with a full face of makeup.
It's enough to send chills down your spine.
Naturally, the internet had A LOT to say.
Many fans were disappointed by Jared Leto's lackluster interpretation of the iconic villain in Suicide Squad, especially because it came after Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning portrayal of the character in 2008's The Dark Knight. Now that it's Phoenix's turn, it's understandable fans are apprehensive about how he will approach the role.
Some viewers are intrigued and are already looking forward to the upcoming flick, which is slated to hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
But as expected, there are some skeptics.
Of course, staunch Phoenix fans have been quick to defend the actor from people spewing hate.
On the bright side, Phoenix doesn't seem to care what everyone thinks. In August, he told IndieWire he would focus his energy on the filmmaker's concept and his personal vision.
"I couldn't care less. I don't really think that much about what people think," he said. "Who cares, who cares? My approach to every movie is the same. What I'm interested in is the filmmaker and the idea of the character."
