Is This Bavaria Beer Commercial Featuring Elvis and Kurt Cobain Delightful or Disrespectful?

(YouTube)
There's a lot of uncomfortable Kurt Cobain coverage on the Internet this week, as the 20th anniversary of his suicide quickly approaches. In addition to just-released pictures of the trashed Los Angeles apartment he once shared with Courtney Love, there's a new Dutch beer commercial that attempts to answer the question of what heaven must look like for him and other stars who left this world too soon.

Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, 2Pac, Bruce Lee, and Elvis all make appearances in the clip, which presents the stars as they might have looked in their old age — or middle age, in Cobain's case. The accompanying text on the YouTube post reads, "We all know the stories and theories surrounding the death of certain stars. But what's the real story ? This Bavaria Radler commercial makes it clear once and for all."

Obviously, not everyone is charmed by this particular fantasy. Rolling Stone called it "egregious," insisting, "this one's worth about a thousand face-palms." SPIN called it "awful" and "shameful." And trust that Courtney Love will have something to say about it, too.
