Karl Lagerfeld will have a new nickname on Thursday. Kaiser Karl will now be Commander Karl. On Thursday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy will bestow the German designer with France's highest civilian award—Commander of the Legion of Honor. The honor is represented with a silver, star-shaped, medal hung from a red ribbon, worn beneath the collar.
Don't Miss:
The Legion of Honor is a system of recognition for service to France and upholding French ideals. Several other fashion designers have received the honor including Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani and Valentino. The Legion of Honor has five tiers, with Commander being the third.
Hopefully Karl likes his new bauble. Think he'll take his new title seriously and demand that people address him as Commander?
