The 13-year-old in us forgot about Miley's foam hand long enough to fangirl out for the *N Sync reunion at the VMAs Sunday night — and turns out we have Justin Timberlake to thank for the performance.
JC Chasez gave the lowdown to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Monday morning and didn't seem one bit mad that the reunion was so short.
"It was just a matter of time. Everybody would ask us, 'When are you guys going to do something?' " Chasez on On Air with Ryan Seacrest. "First of all, it was the worst-kept secret ever, [but] Justin gave me a buzz and he said, 'Hey man, listen. I'm getting this award and they have given me a pile of time to perform and we started our careers at MTV and I think we should get the band back together."
When JT found out he was receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, "we all decided to do it," Chasez added.
And then the five dudes got together to make the performance happen, Chasez said they were transported back to the early 00s. "Two minutes after seeing everybody you feel like no time has passed," he said.
But those dance moves didn't come back nearly as fast. "Everyone was going, 'Can we go through this one more time slowly?' … So that part was pretty funny," Chasez said.
As much as we'd like to see the guys get on the road again, it's not going to happen. Chasez said it was a one-time thing, for JT's special night. "It was just about five guys who were great friends who spent 10 or 15 years together touring and we … wanted to give that back to our fans, but we were there mainly to support Justin." Drat.
