The Best and Worst 'Glee' Tribute Concepts

(Getty Images)

After Glee's very successful Madonna tribute, producers are already planning episodes for Britney Spears, Rocky Horror Picture Show and at least one more very special artist after the Super Bowl. At this rate the hit show is only a few tributes away from jumping the shark. With that in mind we take a look at a few awesome and terrible concepts for the show. Enjoy!

David Bowie
The guy's library is so prolific each character practically has a theme song: Rachel gets "Fame," Puck gets "Rebel, Rebel," Will gets "Changes," and Sue Sylvester? Well obviously "Queen Bitch." Most importantly Kurt gets glittered up to sing "Life On Mars."

David Hasselhoff
Jacked on the success of Olivia Newton-John's appearance on the show, producers settle on the 'Hoff as a Glee-worthy '80s star. Things hit a rough patch when they see this video.

U2 Vs. YouTube

U2
Make this one a lovefest. We previously got a taste of the U2 theme when Rachel and New Directions covered "One," but this would take it to a whole new level. Play "With or Without You" for a pivotal moment in Finn and Rachel's romance. "When Love Comes to Town" is a new love interest. "Mysterious Ways" is all about Mercedes and "Sweetest Thing" is Will putting it all on the line for Emma. The big group number has to be "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

YouTube
Beguiled by the success of Justin Bieber, producers decide to do a YouTube tribute episode. Artie racks up a few hundred thousand views overnight when he uploads a video of a talent show competition (just like Greyson Michael Chance). Jealous of his success Puck does his best "Chocolate Rain" cover, and Kurt dresses up like Rick Astley and effectively Rickrolls the show when he sings "Never Gonna Give You Up." OK Go makes a guest appearance to set up a show-stopping single-take dance number and... actually this sounds way better than some lame U2 tribute.

Frank Sinatra Vs. Frank Zappa

Frank Sinatra
Fully embracing Glee's love of showtunes and cabaret numbers we get a full dose of Sinatra. Sue sabotages a Will and Emma on-again moment with a cynical take on "Love and Marriage." Finn plays "Call Me Irresponsible" with a fiendish smirk. Rachel inexplicably dumps another hottie in the lead up to "My Way." And when the big news arrives that New Directions is going to New York for Nationals the show ends with the group breaking out in "New York, New York."

Frank Zappa
The kids experiment with LSD in a college years episode in the fourth season. We are then treated to roughly 40 minutes of noise collage experiments and Glee is promptly canceled. Critics praise the show for an avant garde ending to the most culturally important show of our generation.

Shakira Vs. Shaq

Shakira
Glee brings the Latin beats as Javier Bardem is introduced (maybe it could still happen?) giving an impassioned dance lesson to Emma to the tune of "Objection Tango." Santana finally gets a major solo with She Wolf, and Mercedes duets with Artie on Hips Don't Lie. The show-stopper comes by way of Rachel, hot-and-bothered over whoever happens to have her hot and bothered that week, singing "Underneath Your Clothes."

Shaq
Because "Gold Digger" and "Ice Ice Baby" weren't embarrassing enough, Will has to get down on some Shaq Diesel. Shaquille himself shows up as some monstrous ringer of a cheerleading coach to bring comic relief alongside Sue Sylvester. Unfortunately his presence can't hide the fact that his '90s attempts at rap were the musical equivalent of hitting yourself in the head with a brick.
