Alec Baldwin Wants Melania Trump To Do 'SNL', But It's A Pass From Me
The actor asked the president's wife to 'come over to the light' and join him on the NBC sketch show.
As the current administration careens out of control, many wonder if there's still hope for Melania Trump. Does she agree with the decisions her husband has made since taking office? In keeping with rumors, is she estranged from the real estate mogul? Alec Baldwin thinks Melania can be saved, and wants her to join Saturday Night Live. Baldwin portrays President Trump weekly on SNL, so it's no surprise he takes the topic personally. Recently, he reached out to the First Lady via Twitter in an attempt to lure her "over to the light."
Last week, Melania struck a tone-deaf chord by wearing an "I Really Don't Care, Do You?" jacket to visit immigrant children at the Texas/Mexico border. She seems to distance herself from her husband and what his administration stands for, but she also avoids politics in general. She'll casually go MIA, and we've all seen those infamous videos that show her swatting away her husband's hand (hehe).
Here's Baldwin's message:
We know what you’re thinking.
What you’re feeling.
You are quaking w anticipation.
Shuddering w a strange, newfound courage.
Come. Come over to the light.
We will welcome you as a hero in ways you never imagined possible.
And then do SNL w me.
He followed that plea with, "We have a chair waiting for you in the @nbcsnl make-up room."
It's a funny tweet, but we think the actor was being sincere.
Baldwin told Howard Stern earlier this month that he's heard Melania "loves" his Trump impression.
"More than one person, now a second person has come to us and said, ‘Yeah, it’s true,’" Baldwin revealed. “She watched SNL. She watched it online and she laughed and she said ‘That’s him. That’s him!’"
Baldwin says his sources are "two very powerful people in Washington," and isn't surprised that Melania likes the Trump impersonation.
“How could it be otherwise?” the Emmy-winner added. “My wife is on to me more than anybody, no one gives it to me like my wife. She gives it to me, she kicks me in the balls like you wouldn’t believe... [Melania] must know what a maniac [Trump] is and what a weird guy he is.”
SNL cast member Cecily Strong echoed his statement when she told Andy Cohen she also heard Melania was a fan of the sketch show.
However, Melania's spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, immediately shot down the idea, and insinuated Alec was using Melania's name for his own publicity.
"As I said back in November when he first said this, that is not true, which is why Mr. Baldwin has no actual names to corroborate his bizarre assertion,” Grisham told People. "I give him credit for trying though, eight months later and he’s still trying to make himself relevant by using her name."
And we all know how Trump feels about the SNL impression.
"I think the Alec Baldwin situation is not good,” Trump said during a 2017 interview with Watters' World. “Chuck I’m very disappointed in, because he’s a guy who should make deals for the people — instead he’s just an obstructionist. So, I’m disappointed in him...I think the portrayal of me is ridiculous.”
Would it be "fun" to see Melania on SNL? Sure. Is this going to help the resistance? Not really.
It could send a wake-up call to Trumpers that not even his wife is on his side, but she's been pretty complicit thus far.
