The 50-year-old won the Best Supporting Actress in a movie award for her role as Alice Ward in The Fighter, and she heaped praise on the movie's director David O. Russell.

Melissa explained she was grateful for Russell convincing her to be in the movie despite the fact that she's too young to actually be a mother to Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. In The Fighter, Melissa plays the fiery matron to the Ward family, including brothers Mickey, Dicky, and their seven sisters. Melissa underwent a full character transformation to become Alice, taking on her clothes, hair, make-up and thick Boston accent.

It's Leo's first Golden Globe award, and she's expected to be nominated for an Oscar as well.
