Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) Eyes Senate Run Against Joe Biden's Son Beau

The last time Mike Castle was in the national news, he was being booed by angry town hall demonstrators for having the gall to suggest that Barack Obama is actually a US citizen. Now the nine-term congressman is considering running for Senate in 2010, which could potentially pit him against Joe Biden's son, Beau Biden.

It'll be a closely watched race, as Democrats attempt to hold on to their 60 seats in the Senate. Castle is seen as the only Republican with the potential to take the seat, though it would be a close contest regardless. Beau Biden is Deleware's elected attorney, and many expect him to toss his own hat into the ring relatively soon.

According to a political handicapper in Delaware who talked to the Christian Science Monitor, the race slightly favors Castle: “Castle has been around a long time, he’s well liked, he runs statewide. Polls show him generally starting out a few points ahead.”
