Meow! 'Black Panther' Is Now The Most Successful Superhero Movie Of All Time
The newest Marvel flick is now the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America.
Black Panther is now the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As of Saturday, March 24, the hit had surpassed reigning box-office blaster, The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. By the end of the weekend, BP had brought in over $630 million — especially impressive considering it only hit theaters February 16.
The site also shared worldwide stats, which put BP at over $1.2 billion. It is now one of the top three superhero films globally.
However, the fourth weekend of March brought about the end of the film's five-week box office sweep thanks to Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Earlier in the month, BP star, Chadwick Boseman, revealed actor Denzel Washington financed his education at Oxford. In the '90s, Boseman applied for a summer theater program at the prestigious school, but was unable to attend due to costly tuition. Eventually, the actor received a letter informing him the tuition had been paid.
"Denzel paid for me. I'm sure he has no idea... I've been waiting to meet him, so I can tell him," Boseman told The Rolling Stone.
Looks like we all owe Washington some thanks.
After all, who could have rocked the Black Panther like Boseman?
