1. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Let's start with the obvious. It's no secret that the Netflix series takes plenty of cues from Steven Spielberg's beloved 1982 sci-fi drama. In the case of Stranger Things, Eleven is the E.T. of the story. She is a strange, almost alien-like girl who hides from the government in the basement of Mike's house (unbeknownst to his parents, of course). She has telekinetic powers, harbors the secrets to an unknown and powerful world, and even gets dressed up in a wig. Hmmm, sound familiar? Those who appreciated Stranger Things' nod to simpler times will appreciate this classic film.
