2016 has claimed one final victim: Mariah Carey's New Year's Eve performance.

The singer appeared on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017, and it would be a gross understatement to say that the show did not go as planned. First Carey was obviously lip-syncing to the classic New Year's tune “Aude Lang Syne." Then the backing track for her hit song "Emotion" started playing, and she appeared wholly unprepared to sing her own song.

“Well, Happy New Year! We can’t hear!” she told the confused crowd. “We didn’t have a check for this song, so we’ll just say it went to number one… I’m going to say let the audience sing.”

“We didn’t have a soundcheck for this New Year’s, baby," she went on. "That’s okay guys." She attempted to perform parts of “We Belong Together," but eventually seemed to just give up on the whole endeavor.

It was a pretty solid meltdown, and probably the most accurate way to wrap up this roller coaster of a year. Check out clips from the awkward performance below.

Happy 2017, ya'll!
