Oakland School Shooting Update: Five Dead, Suspect Arrested

Five people were killed and several others were hurt this morning in a shooting at a Christian university in East Oakland, reports the Mercury News. The shooting occurred at Oikos University when a suspect came in and fired multiple shots inside a classroom. The shooter was arrested today at a shopping center in Alameda.

Police have not confirmed the number of fatalities, but it is believed that five people are dead. Pastor Jong Kim, who founded the school over a decade ago, said the shooter had been a nursing student but was no longer enrolled. He did not know if the suspect had been expelled or dropped out. Authorities have not released the suspect's name.

More information about the shooting and suspect is expected to become available later today. The shooting occurred at about 10:23am,  and authorities are still piecing together statements from witnesses and interviewing the suspect. Stay tuned.
