Video: 'Occupy Cal' Protest Turns Violent As Police Officers Beat Students with Batons

The Occupy Cal protest turns violent (via SFGate)
On Wednesday, hundreds of students gathered at UC Berkeley's Sproul Plaza to protest continued cuts to state education funding, among other things. The demonstration turned violent, however, as police attempted to dismantle the encampment. Videos taken at the site of the protest show police officers jabbing and hitting students with batons in an attempt to break up the human shield protesters had formed around the encampment.

UC police Captain Margo Bennett attempted to explain the officers' actions: "The individuals who linked arms and actively resisted, that in itself is an act of violence. I understand that many students may not think that, but linking arms in a human chain when ordered to step aside is not a nonviolent protest."

Anyone who disagrees with Capt. Bennett after watching the video below should contact her at´╗┐ bennettm@berkeley.edu or file an official complaint.
