Pete Davidson Bravely Addressed His Breakup With Ariana Grande On 'SNL'

"I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business," the comedian said.

Pete Davidson And Ariana Grande Addressed Their Breakup On The Same Night

Pete Davidson wants everyone to leave him alone, and we get it.

Just 30 minutes after Ariana Grande dropped her newest single "thank u, next," in which she name-dropped Pete — “And for Pete, I’m so thankful," the lyrics say — Davidson took to Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" to formally address their split. Prior to his statement, he was under fire for mocking his engagement to the "God is a Woman" singer when he jokingly "proposed" to musical guest Maggie Rogers in one of the episode's promotional snippets.

"Hey Maggie, I’m Pete. You wanna get married?" he asked Rogers. "No," Rogers said, to which Pete responded, "0 for 3."

The fake proposal irked Grande and inspired her to post a series of subtweets dragging Davidson. "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh," one of the tweets read (they have now been deleted.)

Fast forward to Saturday when Grande released her single and Pete addressed the breakup — but not before poking fun at some midterm election candidates, of course.

“So, the midterm elections are obviously a huge deal, and after I had to move back in with my mom, I started paying attention to them," Davidson quipped, alluding to the joke that he's now homeless after moving out of the $16 million apartment he shared with Grande. "She’s lovin' it. And I realized there are some really gross people running for office this year."

He joked that Republican governor Rick Scott looks like "someone tried to whittle Bruce Willis out of a penis," and that New York congressman Peter King looks like "a cigar that came to life."

Davidson went on to acknowledge he shouldn't be making fun of anyone's looks in the first place. He pulled out a photo of himself and said he looks like someone who "makes vape juice in a bathtub," adding he bears a resemblance to "a Dr. Seuss character who went to prison."

In conclusion, the comedian got all choked up and addressed the elephant in the room — his breakup with Grande.

"And the last thing I will say is, I know some of you are curious about the breakup but the truth is, it’s nobody’s business, and sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s okay,” he said. "She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world. Now please, vote on Tuesday."

So there you have it, folks. Whatever happened to their relationship is none of our business, and it's best that we just leave them alone. They're both talented, wonderful people who deserve to move on in peace.
