Best New Music Recommendations Based on Artists You Already Love

It's nearly the end of 2013, and you feel like you've exhausted the music you've loved all year. New releases have slowed to a trickle. There's no solace in the radio, where holiday songs have taken firm hold, and it all seems so stale.

Rather than wait for the next big release by the artists you know and love, why not embark on a voyage of musical discovery? I've made it easy for you. Each week, I'll be highlighting five new bands that share similarities with established artists you may already consider favorites. Sometimes it's necessary to play the comparison game to discover something wonderful. Trust me: You need to know what you've been missing.

1. Feist + Taylor Swift = Yuna
Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna is a pop confessionalist like Taylor Swift, but her gorgeously crafted tunes have a soft folk vibe a la Feist... with maybe just a touch of The Lion King soundtrack in there for good measure.

2. Prince + Chief Keef = AVAN LAVA
Prince's influences can be seen and heard in practically every magical thing AVAN LAVA does (and it is all magical), but their latest single "So F**t Up" sees them experimenting most sensually with some dirty trap.

3. Elvis Costello + Pulp = Fast Romantics
Canada's Fast Romantics lay everything bare in their beautiful sophomore release Afterlife Blues, which is full of retro pop melodies and grand proclamations about life, love and death that you can dance to.

4. The Killers + Cut Copy = World's End Press

The new single from World's End Press sounds kind of like it could be the weirdest, danciest song ever released by The Killers (and probably the best since "Mr. Brightside"). Be warned: The video below is slightly NSFW, thanks to some choice pasties action.

5. The Velvet Underground + Pizza = The Pizza Underground

This one is pretty straightforward. If you're into the Velvet Underground and you're into pizza, then this new cover band of Macaulay Culkin's will make all your wildest dreams come true.
