A lot of things can give you herpes, and according to a 28-year-old woman from Harlem, Rihanna's bright red "Riri Woo" lipstick is one of them.
Starkeema Greenridge sampled the MAC lipstick from the Riri's capsule collection at a pop-up store on May 7 at the Barclay's Center in New York. A couple days later, she developed a cold sore which was later diagnosed as herpes. According to the New York Daily News, Greenridge filed a lawsuit against MAC claiming that the sample tube of lipstick was not properly sanitized. She also said that staff should be trained to use disposable tubes or swabs to apply the lipstick. As a result of her herpes, she missed two weeks of work and is seeking compensation for lost wages, as well as "mental anguish and emotional distress."
In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for MAC Cosmetics released a statement to The Daily Beast: "Consumer safety is a top priority at MAC Cosmetics, and we take these matters very seriously. We are closely reviewing these claims."
There is a lesson to be learned here: do not slather anything on your lips that has been slathered on other people's mouths.
