Chris Hemsworth Fights a Whale, Talks In a New England Accent, in 'In the Heart of the Sea'
(Warner Bros.)Chris Hemsworth has his work cut out for him in In the Heart of the Sea. First, he's fighting a giant angry whale. Second, he's taking on a New England accent, which seems particularly tricky for an Australian. And third, he's totally going to eat people.

We get a taste of all that in the first trailer, which ratchets up the tension and doesn't shy away from giving us a few satisfying shots of the monster whale along with some cannibal foreshadowing. Ron Howard is adapting the 2000 book, which tells the tale of the Essex, a Nantucket whaling ship that sank in 1820 after being rammed twice by a bull sperm whale. After the ship sank, the crew fought to stay alive in life boats, with the survivors resorting to cannibalism to stay alive.

Herman Melville famously drew from the story while writing Moby Dick, so effectively this is the movie where Chris Hemsworth fights Moby Dick. Where's Mjolnir when you need it?

I write about movies for Zimbio.com, which means I spend way too much time thinking about the geekiest possible ways to approach the cineplex. I'm also hopelessly addicted to audio books. Follow me: Google
