Ryan Gosling Dedicates Best Actor Award to Wife Eva Mendes' Late Brother Carlos at 2017 Golden Globes
Mendes' brother Carlos passed away of cancer while Gosling shot 'La La Land.'
Eva, Gosling said, had juggled taking care of her small daughters with helping her brother as much as possible while Gosling filmed La La Land. Without his wife, he said, his win wouldn't have been possible.
"There's no time to thank everyone, so I'd just like to thank one person," Gosling said.
"My lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. Sweetheart, thank you," he continued.
"If I may, I'd like to dedicate this to the memory of Carlos Mendes," he finished.
While Gosling and Mendes, who share daughters Esmeralda and Amada, generally stay under the radar, the dedication was a poignant and intimate glimpse into the family's private lives.
Gosling, 36, also joked that Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds deserved the honor.
"This isn't the first time I've been mistaken for Ryan Reynolds," he said. "But it's getting out of hand."
Along with Reynolds, other contenders up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy included Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, and Jonah Hill.
