Kim Cattrall, I Was Rooting for You... We Were All Rooting for You

This 'Sex and the City' feud is pretty tragic, TBH.

Celebrity feuds are nothing new, and by now, you already know whose claws were on full display on Piers Morgan's Life Stories late last year. I'll admit, it hurt a little when Kim Cattrall said she'd "never been friends" with her co-stars. It was a mean-spirited, unnecessary statement to make in a very public moment. Barring the actress' troubled friendships, though, the true casualty is the illusion Cattrall shattered when she opened her mouth.

You see, Sex and the City isn't about Kim Cattrall. Not really. The star brought savage sex pot, Samantha Jones, to life, and for that I'll always be thankful. But what made the HBO series such a phenomenon was the impenetrable girl gang Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis presented to the world. Time after time, on-screen cohorts Samantha, Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte introduced us to what good friends truly looked like — the type who could always tell when you were upset; who would stop at nothing to avenge you when your significant other acted a fool; who stood up for you whenever the opportunity presented itself. They were unbreakable, and despite their very different personalities, lives, and choices, they were perfect together.

Sex and the City was about them — that fierce foursome, and the millions of real viewers who lost themselves in the show because, in real life, friends like that don't always come into our lives. When Cattrall blasted SJP and the rest of the Sex and the City crew on camera (alongside Piers Morgan, no less), she not only let that illusion go, she lit it ablaze.

It's true that actors don't have to be best friends, even if their characters are inseparable. Plenty of television's most dedicated besties were played by people who just didn't jive. Still, as a fan, I felt like I'd lost something when I saw the look on SJP's face as Andy Cohen confronted her about Cattrall on a recent episode of What What Happens Live.

To be fair, a lot goes on behind the scenes, and despite the public drama, we may never have the full picture. Here's hoping for some sort of reconciliation in the future.
