M. Night Shyamalan Says 'Unbreakable 2' Might Happen

(Photo from Getty Images/Touchstone)M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth opens in theaters today and even though it isn't sitting well with critics, we still hold out hope for the director. When he realeased Sixth Sense, audiences' minds were blown. The movie practically spawned the term, "spoiler alert." Follow-up Unbreakable didn't get great reviews, but they were glowing compared to those of later works like The Last AirbenderWe'll just pretend that movie didn't happen.

Despite the lukewarm reception of Unbreakable in 2000, the ending did leave the door open for a sequel. Many fans want it to happen, and why shouldn't it? It's an atypical superhero story. Moviegoers eat that stuff up.

The director told MTV News in the video interview below that he's open to a sequel and said, "As long as it can be connected to something that I'm feeling right now, then it'll work for me, it'll be valid and I'll enjoy it. If it feels like a mechanical thing where I'm doing it because it'll be profitable or successful, then that'd just be so hollow."

What does he have to lose? The sequel couldn't be any worse than Lady in the Water, right?
