Matt Smith Lands A 'Key Role' In 'Star Wars: Episode IX'
Bye, bye, Buckingham Palace.
Matt Smith is going back to space, y'all!
Variety reports the 35-year-old actor will appear in the next Star Wars installment, due out late next year. No word yet who Smith will play, but per Variety it's a "key role." And, we do know the guy's got talent on talent, so we feel comfortable in assuming Smith is well suited for whatever galactic shoes he's destined to fill.
The British actor isn't the only new face to sign on to the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie have all joined the Abrams-directed film, which started filming earlier this month. Of course, franchise stars Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver will also be back to finish out their characters' storylines.
In other notable IX casting news, after 36 years, Billy Dee Williams will finally reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. Carrie Fisher will also appear in Star Wars: Episode IX, using previously unseen footage from Episode VII.
Now, tell us what you think: Would you rather see Matt Smith pledge his allegiance to the rebel alliance or the dark side?
