Margot Robbie is a Barbie girl in the live-action movie world, ah ah ah, yeah!

The live-action Barbie film is a project that has long been in the works, but now things are finally starting to kick off.

Back in 2016, Amy Schumer was slated to play the iconic character, but she dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Anne Hathaway was also attached at one point, but the actress also backed out — which brings us to today: Oscar-nominated star Margot Robbie is in talks to portray the doll we all know and love, and this casting couldn't be more perfect.

Rumor has it Robbie is also producing it through her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment.

There's no word yet as to how the film will play out, but when Schumer was still on board, it was supposed to be about an "imperfect doll living in Barbieland" that would put a "contemporary feminist spin on the iconic doll with an emphasis on body image and identity," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

It'll be interesting to see how Robbie interprets that thesis, but the film could also go in a hundred different directions. After all, Barbie wears many hats. She has over 150 careers on her resume — a registered nurse, a rock star, and a police officer, to name a few. She's also been a CEO, a news anchor, and get this: a presidential candidate. #Barbie2020, anyone?

Whatever direction Robbie decides to go in, the actress will have no problem slaying (and looking) the part. Over the last few years, the I, Tonya star has successfully portrayed a wide range of roles, including an Olympic skater, a socialite, and a loony anti-hero.

We're sure playing Barbie as she runs for a seat in the Oval Office would be a piece of cake.
