Oscar Nominations 2019: 'Black Panther' Just Earned A History-Making Nomination

'A Star Is Born,' 'The Favourite,' 'Roma,' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' also received Oscar nods.

Awards season is in full swing, y'all! On Tuesday morning, the 2019 Oscar nominees were finally announced, putting an end to all our speculation. This time around, Marvel fans found plenty to rejoice about as Ryan Coogler's Black Panther became the first superhero movie ever to get nominated for Best Picture. We repeat: Black Panther is the FIRST superhero movie EVER to earn a Best Picture nod. While we're at it, here are other notable stats and milestones from this year's Oscar nominations list: 

- Most Oscar nominations: The Favourite and Roma tied with 10 nominations each  
- Roma is Netflix's first Best Picture Oscar nomination 
- Spike Lee earned his first ever Best Director nom for BlacKkKlansman
Bradley Cooper was snubbed for Best Director, but A Star Is Born still earned eight nominations (including Best Actor for Cooper)
-Yalitza Aparicio (Roma) became the first indigenous woman to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar
- Kendrick Lamar earned his first Oscar nomination for his musical contributions to Black Panther
