The Internet Is Dying To Know Who Keri Russell Will Play In 'Star Wars: Episode IX'
Our bets are on Rey's mom.
Variety reports Keri Russell is in talks to be the first new major addition to J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX. Russell would sign on for a mystery role that calls for "action-heavy scenes." Given her role as a bad-ass Soviet spy on FX's The Americans, we think she's got that covered. No word yet on whether her character would join the side of the Resistance or the First Order.
If the deal goes through, Russell will join Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Kelly Marie Tran in the third installment of the sequel trilogy that is being directed by Abrams. He's also co-writing the script. Russell and Abrams have worked closely together in the past. She was the star of Felicity which was co-created by Abrams. He also cast her in 2006's Mission: Impossible III.
First off, I'd like to start by saying that I'm completely here for this Keri Russell casting news as I think she'd be a great addition to the Star Wars franchise. But getting back to the "mystery role" part. Who would she play? The internet wants to know. If I had my way, she'd play Rey's mom, or some kind of high-ranking First Order leader who gets to put Kylo Ren in his place (she's got a great shouting voice). Either role would work for me. How about you?
Matthew Rhys better be signing on to play Rey's dad.
Star Wars: Episode IX opens December 20, 2019.
