Steven Spielberg Says The Next Indiana Jones Could Be A Woman
Are you ready for Indiana Joan?
Do you know what could be scarier than a soup full of eyeballs or a lunatic with a melting face? Imagine a million angry fanboys screaming about a female version of Indiana Jones.
Harrison Ford, who's played the legendary Indiana Jones since 1981, will soon reprise his role as the world's most beloved fictional archeologist. The fifth installment of the franchise is slated for a 2020 release after which Ford will likely drop the whip for good.
In an interview with The Sun, director Steven Spielberg suggested the next film will be Ford's swan song and also discussed the franchise's future. "This will be Harrison Ford's last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that," explained the prolific director.
When asked who might don Indiana Jones' famous fedora next, Spielberg revealed the character will take "a different form." In fact, he nodded when asked if this new version could be a woman.
"We'd have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that."
