Solange Knowles Turns Inflatable Banana Fiasco Into Civil Rights Crusade

It seemed like the entire music world was celebrating Beyoncé's pregnancy announcement at Sunday evening's MTV Video Music Awards, but not Beyoncé's little sister Solange Knowles.

The younger Ms. Knowles wasn't in the house at the Nokia Center—she was in Miami, where she issued a series of indignant tweets after a run-in with the police.

The way TMZ tells it, Knowles was denied entry to Miami's Club Cameo because she wanted to bring in a 5-foot tall inflatable banana, and the bouncers weren't having it. Knowles tried to argue her way in with said banana, and the confrontation became so heated the cops were called. At some point Knowles' banana may have been threatened with a knife. And that's what led to this stream of tweets:
I have literally had my last leg with discriminating police! Miami police department will be notified. A police officer just pulled a weapon on me.... I have done NOTHING illegal, against the law, or anything of the sort. I am simply tired of police using arrogance, ego and authority as an offense. I'm only tweeting this to raise awareness. I could have left quietly, but I am sick & tired of this scenario being played over & over again. I'm ok. I'm safe & sound at my apartment. I'm just beyond frustrated with the system. It is time to do something about it. I am a mother raising a young black child in America. Im going to die trying! Been on the phone for the last 20 minutes reporting this incident. Yes, I have the officers name. Yes, I have the location. Scare tactics don't WORK. Curious how none of Knowles' tweets mention her beloved banana. Let's hope it was not forgotten in all of this.

Knowles did take to Twitter after the story broke to defend herself, saying, "Yes, very funny a balloon was involved in the incident....but having a switchblade pulled out on you is no laughing matter."
