After weeks of speculation, Netflix has officially renewed 13 Reasons Why for a second season, according to Deadline.

Despite the drama's explosive popularity, there was some question as to whether Season 2 would be necessary. Some would argue the story ends at the perfect moment, and that its purpose has been served. Others, however, are keen to see a few loose ends tied up, and to learn just how the characters surrounding Hannah's death rebuild their lives after her suicide.

Since its release, the show has seen some backlash given the graphic nature of Hannah's suicide. The show was triggering, they argued, and went too far to make its point. Still, the series wracked up views, becoming Netflix's most talked about show in recent history.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series writer Brian Yorkey said Hannah Baker would likely return to a second season, despite her death.

"One of the things that is a fundamental element of our show is the weaving of past and the present," Yorkey said. "Hannah's story is still very much not finished. She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it."

That means we can at least count actress Katherine Langford in, as well as Justin Prentice (who plays Bryce Walker), who recently told Zimbio he was hoping to return.

No word yet on when we can expect Season 2, but it's highly unlikely it will premiere before the end of 2018.
