If TV is milk, we've got your Cookie.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching FOX's 'Empire'

FOX's Empire strikes back.

Despite premiering among a sea of ill-fated midseason shows, the hip hop drama has defied the odds and celebrated ratings gold. So what sets the series apart from its competition? Here are only a handful of reasons why it has become one of TV's primetime elite:

    Cookie is everything.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching FOX's 'Empire'

Hell hath no fury like the ex-wife of a hip hop music mogul scorned. Taraji P. Henson kills it as the unfiltered, sharp-tongued Cookie, who rightfully demands her fair share of the company after a seventeen year stint in prison. Her sass, quick wit, and cut-the-BS attitude would cause even the most arrogant of businessmen to shiver in their recently-shined loafers. We couldn't ask for anything more!

The music is really, really good.

No, but seriously. All of these original songs could be released and do well on the radio. Thanks to the talents of Timbaland, we get 60 minutes of damn good hip hop void of the cheesiness and oversinging found in shows like Glee.

It delves into deep and personal issues.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching FOX's 'Empire'

It seems like every week raises some sort of extreme, albeit common moral dilemma. Lucious alone is struggling with mortality (he has been diagnosed with ALS), acceptance (he has a gay son), loyalty (he knows he needs to help ex-wife Cookie), and guilt (he killed a friend). That's a lot for one person to handle, but not entirely unrealistic for someone who has created an empire from the ground up. Oh, the humanity! We love to see it.

Everyone is dressed to the nines.

Everyone looks fabulous. Perfect hair, perfect fur coats, perfect shoes, perfect nails, perfect makeup...it's difficult to find something that's not perfect (aside from Jamal's new apartment. Yikes.). You'd think that Empire was actually Ford Models. It's fun to immerse yourself in this lavish world of the rich and famous, even if it's only for 60 minutes (with limited commercial breaks. Thanks for always reminding us, FOX.)

It makes you question what other celebs have done to gain power.

We all know that fame requires hard work and luck, but what questionable activities have some of our favorite mega-celebrities dabbled in to attain industry domination? You'll be asking yourself this question constantly. We're looking at you, Meryl.

FOX's Empire airs Wednesdays at 9/8c.
