Frank Herbert's Dune may be the greatest sci-fi novel ever written. The challenge of bringing it to the big screen has been the obsession of many filmmakers — from Alejandro Jodorowsky, whose film never materialized, to Ridley Scott and David Lynch, whose 1984 adaptation bombed. Lynch lost final cut, leaving fans wondering what might have been.

Enter Denis Villeneuve. The French-Canadian filmmaker is at the helm of the latest Dune incarnation, scheduled for release November 20, 2020. The story is set in the future where royal families fight over control of the planet Dune and its "spice," a drug which is essential to space travel. Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) is exactly the kind of visionary director to bring Dune to life.

One of Dune's greatest assets is its many vivid characters. It's a casting director's dream and the 2020 version features an all-star lineup of actors from all walks of life. Read on to see the talent behind the Dune remake.
