At some point in the late '90s, studios were convinced Antonio Banderas was the next action star. Touchstone went all in on the Spanish heartthrob, dropping $160 million on The 13th Warrior, a period epic that failed to connect with moviegoers. It only grossed $61 million, and Banderas was relegated to the Spy Kids franchise.
