The Most Controversial Movies on Netflix

'Child of God'
Starring: Scott Haze, Tim Blake Nelson,
James Franco (also directs)

Franco makes a lot of movies, but none have the stomach-churning content of Child of God. Set in deep woods Tennessee in the 1950's, the film is a portrait of a deranged man, Lester Ballard (Haze), who's set on living on his own, outside the bounds of society. The movie watches his decent to the depths of perversion. Franco's script is based on Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name. The book is an investigation of corrupt morality and how society influences that corruption. And the movie goes for the same themes, but seeing Ballard's madness materialize onscreen (he murders, rapes, and becomes a necrophiliac) is far from a picnic.
