According to Entertainment Weekly, the Oscars are shaking things up. There will be two hosts for the 2016 Academy Awards. David Hill, one of the producers of the show, believes that two hosts are better than one.
“Just imagine, you're in there. One of your hosts drops dead from cardiac arrest. What do you do? Second host goes on! And you keep going . . . Note to self. Check out their heart rates,” Hill joked.
Hey, it doesn't sound like a bad idea! Here's a list of 10 possible dynamic duos who could make it a memorable and entertaining night for everyone.
1. Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak
The dream team indeed! Does anyone need a specific reason to watch this are-they or aren't-they couple interact with one another? Not only are Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak a comedy-writer tour de force, but their incredible on and off-screen chemistry will make for a great televised event. If only they would get married in real life! What are they waiting for?
2. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck
How long has it been since these two collaborated? Probably not that long ago since they still produce many projects together. Even so, the glory days of Good Will Hunting need to make a comeback. Plus, Matt Damon is a major cutie, and Ben Affleck could definitely use a pick-me-up just about now.
3. Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer
Both Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have publicly expressed their love for one another multiple times, and there's nothing like a little hosting gig at the Oscars to really warm them up for their future on-screen collaboration. Who do you think will trip on her dress first? My money's on Lawrence.
4. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
They're reliable, funny, and incredibly talented. After successfully hosting the Golden Globes three times, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can surely handle the Oscar crowd. If anything, their sense of humor can liven up the usually uppity atmosphere of the event. Plus, we could all use a little Liz Lemon and Leslie Knope in our lives. It's been too long.
5. Anne Hathaway and James Franco
Round two anyone? After their disastrous stint as the first and only double hosts of the Oscars, both Anne Hathaway and James Franco have not been able to live down the embarrassment of that night. Maybe a redo can fix that? Note to Franco: Learn how to read the teleprompter and try not to fall asleep on stage!
6. Ellen Page and Alia Shawkat
Not only did Ellen Page and Alia Shawkat play adorable best friends in Whip It!, but their real life friendship is just as entertaining and sweet! Plus, both of these young actresses have a biting sense of humor and a solid comedic background. Unlike many of their famous counterparts, Page and Shawkat aren't afraid to push boundaries for a good laugh.
7. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill
This on-screen bromance has already given us many laughs, so it makes sense for Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill to team up again for Hollywood's most glamorous night. Yes, there should be a Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street inspired musical number. And, yes, Tatum should just be shirtless the whole night. How long has it been since we last saw those abs? Too long, probably.
8. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer
If you don't already watch Broad City, then you're seriously missing out on life. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are like the female versions of the Apatow crew, except they're even funnier. Not only do these two write their own show, but they're also mentored by Amy Poehler. Jacobson and Glazer might be a bit too risqué for the formal event, but at least they'll keep us laughing through and through.
9. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert
Now that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have both moved onto new territories in their careers, it's only time for them to truly celebrate their success. They have years of experience making fun of people and each other, so the hosting gig will be more of a vacation than a real “job” for them.
10. Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus
Okay, so pairing Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus might not be such a brilliant idea, but it sure would be incredible to watch. Maybe the two will reconcile, or maybe they'll just end up hating each other even more. Who knows? But it'll be fun to watch. Make sure to have the popcorn ready!
