Here is Avril's response to getting sued over plagarism claims:
"You may have heard some news that two guys who wrote for some band from the 1970s I have never in my life heard of called the 'Rubinoos' are trying to sue me."

The band had hits with a cover of Tommy James & the Shondells' "I Think We're Alone Now," "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," and the theme song for the 1984 movie "Revenge of the Nerds." Tommy Dunbar filed a lawsuit against Avril Lavigne and her management in 2007, claiming that her single "Girlfriend" too strongly resembled "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." The 2 parties came to an undisclosed settlement in 2008.
