What The Actors From Your Favorite Survival Movies Endured For Their Intense Roles

7. James Franco In '127 hours'
For his Oscar-nominated role in 127 Hours, James Franco had to endure physical pain while playing Aron Ralston, a canyoneer forced to cut off his own arm after being trapped by a boulder.

"There was a lot of physical pain, and Danny [Boyle, the director] knew that it was going to cause a lot of pain," the actor said while attending the 2011 Oscar Nominee luncheon.

Franco continued, in part, "I had bruises, scars... and there were some shots of my bare arm, and it looked like track marks."
