The Academy Awards are always a spectacle.

You may remember figure skater Adam Rippon's Moschino leather harness moment on the red carpet, or Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway's unfortunate Moonlight Best Picture gaffe. You might even recall Chris Rock's strong #OscarsSoWhite opener. But you probably haven't often considered the many ways women have shaped Hollywood's biggest show throughout the years.

For starters, women are the reason the event is used to shedding light on important causes. The two youngest Oscar winners in history were both female. Heck, even the 45-second speech time limit is the result of one particularly chatty Golden Age queen.
